For the Cats

Hello to all my fellow feline enthusiasts! Today I have a card that blends two cat stamp sets from My Favorite Things: I Knead You and Cool Cat. These sets work so well together! I thought the little sleepy kitty would look real cute on the cat bed. And of course, I had to make this kitty look like my little Oliver.

Oliver, Mid-day Grooms.

I stamped and then masked (with a post-it note) the sleeping kitty from the I Knead You set onto a piece of water color paper that I had die-cut using a Wonky Stitched Rectangle die. Then I stamped the bed from the Cool Cat set over the mask.  Then I carefully watercolored the scene using Gansai Tambi solid watercolors (except the blue fishy – that was with a Zig Clean Color Real Brush marker) and a water brush. Side note: I just noticed that you can get replacement individual color pans for the Gansai Tambi paints! Woot! If you’re new to water colors, I highly recommend these paints. The colors are beautiful.

I also stamped and watercolored a sentiment and then layered everything onto some patterned paper from PinkFresh Studio (via the September 2015 card kit from Simon Says Stamp), and then onto a kraft card base.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m suddenly feeling the need to go find a cat to snuggle with.

This month marks the one year anniversary of adopting Archie aka Archaroo aka The Archduke of Pain.

This sweet five year-old boy was rescued from an unfortunate breeding situation, along with several other dogs and puppies. He and his sister were the only ones not adopted from the shelter, and so an adoption group stepped in and brought them to central Indiana. I don’t know how anyone could resist adopting this boy, but I’m selfishly glad they did. He is the sweetest dog I have ever met. Sure, he’s got some issues, but he has so much love for everybody. The poor boy came to us with a case of “happy tail” – he actually injured his tail from wagging it too much. He’s just so happy.

This dog.

Archie loves cheese, wrestling with his brother, naps with his humans, his kitty friend Oliver, and pizza. And also the vet’s office (he loves the ladies and flirts shamelessly). He loves to make nests in the pillows in the corner of our sofa.

Comfy. #dogsofinstagram

He finds babies fascinating, looks behind the computer for the crying kitties in youtube videos, and is very concerned by the opening of the Decemberists’ song The Infanta.

Happy (belated) Adoption Day, Archie. We love you. I can’t remember what our little family was like before you found us.

Monkey and Oliver, or Introductions

This is Monkey (known to a few as Frida):

And this is Oliver:

Ollie AllTheFur

They are my crafting buddies and will be making regular appearances here, along with my two dogs, Ernie and Archie.  Ernie and Archie don’t care much for crafting, so they don’t get a blog named after them.

So, welcome to my little crafting corner. I knit, needle felt, stitch, and, most recently, make cards. I was a keen artist in high school, but traded my pencils and paint brushes for degrees in biology and library science, and now I spend my days hunting for obscure information and telling people what it means (read: I write a lot of reports…alot a lot). I don’t get the chance to be all that creative in my day job, so crafting is a very important outlet for me. Knitting is still my first love, but I’m a slow knitter, which makes for very infrequent blogging. My new obsession with card making can at least fill in the gaps. And when all else fails, there’s always Monkey and Ollie.

Thanks for visiting.
